Book Collection for McClernand School

Community Ministry News Flash! Several people have asked us if we were going to be collecting gently used children’s books for McClernand school like we did two summers ago. The answer is yes!! We will have a collection box sitting in the back of the church during the months of June, July and the first part of August.        We appreciate your continued interest in this project. McClernand is always so appreciative of this support.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD

Habitat for Humanity Lutheran Build! Sundae Johnson, a fellow Lutheran from Springfield, has been blessed with the opportunity to become a homeowner. Johnson said she applied because she has "...always wanted to be a homeowner." If you are interested in helping with this project, there are multiple ways you can serve! Whether it be helping at the end of the build or a financial donation, there's a way you can help out. We've raised $70,000 for this project thanks to generous donations from Thrivent Financial and people just like you! However, we still have $30,000 left to raise so spread the word. To learn more, contact Karen Fifer 971-1046 or Pastor Ladd Sonnenberg at St. John's (217)793-3933.

REDECORATING UPDATE…

As you may have observed, exciting changes are taking place in the fellowship hall area! The walls have been painted and the new flooring will be installed by the time you receive your Grace notes.

Kim has now moved into the front office and a new office window has been installed that opens up to the fellowship area. This window will allow Kim to have a better view of the fellowship hall and greet people as they come to the office.  The secretary’s office and the workroom should be completed by mid August. Kim’s old office will now allow space for our parish nurse and provide a spot for our liquid copy machine. Desks have been shifted around for JB and David’s use and other pieces were donated to Habitat for Humanity.

Our kitchenette cabinets were rearranged to make room to recess our new refrigerator. This room should now function better for small meetings and when we serve receptions upstairs. The old refrigerator that was in the kitchenette was moved downstairs to the food pantry.

The two large closets in the fellowship hall have been cleaned out and can now serve as storage for the new tables and chairs. We should no longer have to haul tables and chairs up from the basement.

New flooring in both hallways should be installed by Labor Day. The walls have been painted and the banisters have been stripped and stained. New cabinets have been installed above the coat rack and on the wall as you enter the fellowship hall from the Capitol Street entrance.

Window treatments have been ordered and should arrive in three weeks.

Recent donations to this project have allowed us to purchase a new display case, a refrigerator for the kitchenette, a flat screen television and Blu-ray, and the electrical work. We still have a wish list that includes; refurbishing and upholstering the antique pastoral chairs, buying a coffee cart for the kitchenette, purchasing a light for the piano and possibly buying a couple of lamps to place on the end tables.

Teamwork has gotten us to this point! We have many people to thank for all of their help and will do so once this project is completed. Plans are to celebrate the completion on Rally Day in September.
