Grace Lutheran Church accepting "175 Donations" to benefit schools, charities: In celebration of its 175th anniversary, Historic Grace Lutheran Church has begun a year-long campaign to acquire 175 supplies each month to benefit local schools and charities. The campaign begins September 1 and will run through September 2017. Each month will have a theme and a named school or charity. Donated items can be dropped off at the church, 714 E. Capitol Ave. "Our goal is to have 175 donated 'things' but we would love to have more," said the Rev. Thomas Christell, Jr., senior pastor at the church. "We would appreciate any donations from the community." Supplies for January-September 2017 will be announced later this year. For more information call 217-522-3965.

We are once again in the planning stages for a Progressive Dinner. The first stage is to determine how many people would like to participate and also the names and addresses of those willing to open up their homes. If possible, we like to all meet at one location for appetizers and then split into groups of 10 or less for the entrée and salad. Then if possible, we like to all end up at one destination for dessert. To make sure there is not too much burden placed on any one individual for food preparation, the desserts, appetizers and salads will be split amongst all participants, and everyone will be asked to provide their own beverage. If you are interested in joining us, please sign up on the sheet located in the Fellowship Hall. If you have any questions please call Judy Wheaton. This event is always so much fun, so we hope you can join us!
