DECEMBER ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULE
November 26, 2013 2:14 AM
November 22, 2013 3:53 PM
Women of Grace Lutheran Church remember to give your Thankofferings on the weekend of Nov. 23 and 24th. Our offerings and Thankofferings are the primary sources of funding for ministries supported by the Women of the ELCA (WELCA). Your gifts allow us to support many different ministries around the world and share stories of Bold women of faith. Our offerings support the “Gather" magazine, training for women in leadership, scholarships and grants to help the health and wellbeing of women and children. For more than 100 years, Lutheran women have given thanks to God and dollars to mission through Thankofferings. The practice started in the 1800s, when Christian women formed “cent” societies to fund missions. Women collected offerings at home and would gather to worship and combine their offerings and offer them up with thanks and praise. The Women of the ELCA was formed over 25 years ago and continues this tradition of giving in gratitude for blessings. In 2012 women of Grace collected $346.72 for Thankofferings. Thank you for sharing your gifts with others. Please continue to collect your offerings whether it is in a jar or envelope or baggie to help others.

NOVEMBER ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULE
October 31, 2013 1:50 AM
SETTING THE STAGE FOR MARTIN LUTHER
October 8, 2013 12:32 AM
Three-week series for Adult Forum beginning October 13.
Marty Morris will present a 3-week symposium dealing with the philosophical and religious development of Christianity through the 5th century.
Persons interested in this should purchase Martin Marty’s short but excellent biography of Martin Luther to read along with the series as a supplement. It is available on Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
The schedule is as follows:
Week One: Ancient philosophers contribute to religious concepts--Plato and Aristotle. Both of these men contributed heavily to the development of Christianity, and the thinking of both were incorporated in Luther's education both as a young law student and then, especially, as an Augustinian monk and professor. Plato will provide the philosophical underpinning for early Christianity and Aristotle will figure heavily in later centuries as the church changes it focus from the heavenly to a more down to earth attitude about humanity and reality.
Week Two: The church becomes imperial: the eventual Christianization of the Roman Empire and how it led to a catholic church united by the need for political unity. Looks at Constantine, and he early church councils that we're called not by religious leaders but by emperors to address religious distinction.
Week Three: the early church father who was considered the best guide to faith second only to scripture, Aurelius Augustinis, or Augustine the bishop of Hippo Regius, a diocese in North Africa. His religious though concerning grace and free will will have a marked effect on Luther's thinking on the subject. You might be surprised. Was the selling of indulgences the cause of the Reformation, or was it rather the underlying understanding of our "free" will that was the crux of the matter.

SANCTUARY FLOORING PROJECT REPORT
September 6, 2013 9:37 AM
The Sanctuary Flooring Project was completed on September 4, 2013. There were over 28 volunteers who helped with this project. As a group, they worked more than 197 hours over several evenings and mornings to ensure completion by the promised completion date.
We on the Property Committee would like to thank the congregation for allowing us to do the project by holding 2 services over Labor Day weekend in the Fellowship Hall. We would also like to thank the many volunteers that contributed their time and talents in making this project a success.
A special thanks goes out to Chuck Weyhenmeyer for engineering the project and his dedication in ensuring that the project was the success it is.
NEW MEMBERS 2013
June 4, 2013 1:01 AM
Grace welcomes its newest members of our faith community
We give thanks for the following people, one with us in the body of Christ, who made public affirmation of their baptism and joined our fellowship of faith at Grace. Erica Wehyenmeyer, Judy Wollet, Ed Wollet, Kevin Harrison, Marcia Harrison, Becky Moran, Debbie Janik, and Betty Curry.
Merciful God, we thank you for these sisters and brothers whom you have made your own by water and the Word in baptism. You have called them to yourself and to our congregation, enlightened them with the gifts of your Spirit, and nourished them in the community of faith. Uphold your servants in the gifts and promists of baptism, and unite the hearts of all whom you have brought to new birth. We ask this in the name of Christ.
